Ok, so here it is. Jan 31, Officer Sean Andrews in Onondaga County, NY pulls over this lady in a minivan with two kids. Ok lets back up a bit here.

Officer Andrews pulled over Audra Harmon because she appeared to be speeding (50 in 45mph), and talking on her phone with her two kids in the van. According to the fox article linked below Harmon was uncooperative with Andrews so he tased her fearing that she would try to drive off which would mean he’d have to chase her and put the two kids in danger.

There was a administrative hearing August 20th, to which he was suspended for 30 days and could still face other Disciplinary actions as well. Oh and News flash, Harmon is suing the officer? Come on, I can’t believe that everyone is all of the sudden against this officer, she even agreed that he was right in his statement about the incident.

Let me get this straight, there’s an officer that pulls over a van for possible violations and when the lady doesn’t cooperate and to which he doesn’t always have a good sight of her hands, tases her a couple of times to protect himself from possible harm and chase, then gets punished for doing what he’s TRAINED to do? This is insane, and even his DIRECT supervisor supports him, which is what should happen.

However, politics as always have to get in the WAY of those that put their lives on the line everyday to make sure that you and me are as safe as possible by enforcing the rules of the road, or what have you.

Don’t misunderstand me though, I’m sure there are “bad” cops that need to be rooted out, and I don’t stand for officers that deliberately use their training to get what they want personally. As far as I can tell this officer in no way did anything but follow his training, his supervisor didn’t see any violations.

Why are these officers being trained like this but then we go and “slap” them in the face when they use it to protect themselves in a situation like this? I guarantee you if some of these op-posers had to do this job and ran into an incident like this they wouldn’t pass at all. Some are cut out for it, and others aren’t.
